Tung Chung Fort

Ha Ling Pei, Tung Chung, Lantau

The Tung Chung Fort was declared a monument in 1979. The carved granite slab above its bears the inscription “the 12th year of the Daoguang reign” (1832), suggesting that the fort was likely built in that year. It was originally constructed to defend against pirate invasions. Subsequently, the fort served successively as a police station, a school campus, and office for the Rural Committee. It now houses an exhibition centre showcasing Tung Chung’s history, making it a highly appealing destination for history enthusiasts. Visitors can also enjoy the panoramic views of Tung Chung Bay and its surrounding countryside at the fort.
